10th Anniversary of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

How time flies when you are having fun baking bread. 10 years ago we published our first book, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, and it’s been an exciting journey ever since. Our publisher took a chance on two unknown authors; a pastry chef and a physician with a crazy idea of how to change how people bake bread. The publisher printed 5000 copies, hedging their bets in case it didn’t sell, but they sold in a week. They printed another 5000 and those too sold right away. They did it again and again, thinking it would slow down, but it didn’t. Here we are 10 years later, a second edition, 5 other titles and 750,000 copies of our books sold. This is all because of you, our incredible readers and the inspiration for all of our books. You have been there with us and for us, and we want to thank you!

Our first edition of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day is no longer in print, but the second edition The New Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day is even better and we want to give you a copy. For a chance to win, please leave a comment here and we’ll pick 5 winners. You can also go to our Instagram page, like our page and tag two friends for another chance to win. We’ll be giving away 5 copies to our Instagram followers. Please see our giveaway policy. This contest is finished and winners were announced!

For those of you who are not familiar with our method, you can find the Master Recipe from The NewABin5 here!

Thank you and Happy Baking!

  3. I love your bread method and the caramel sticky buns made with the master recipe are excellent. I have taught both my daughters your recipe and they love it. I would love the new book.

  4. I new to this so I’m very excited to say that I’m happy with the results. Very easy to learn. Thank you and Happy 10th Anniversary.

  5. I love your books. I have a copy of the New Healthy Bread in 5 minutes a Day. I considered buying the New Bread in 5 minutes a day to learn to make some more traditional types of bread. Your recipes always turn out great!

  6. I’ve been working from AB and HB in 5 since 2012 and keep turning others on to the simplicity and goodness of your method. Just got two co-workers hooked last week. I would never bake bread like this if it wasn’t for discovering your books.

  7. Happy 10th Anniversary! So many wonderful ways to make beautiful and delectable, healthy breads. Keep up the great work! Love your method and all the selfless work you do to make our lives richer.

  8. Thanks for the chance. We’ve been baking your bread since we read in Mother Earth News, I think shortly after the book first came out. We now bake out of HB in 5 several times a week. We love it! Congrats!

  9. I would love to win this book! You are one of my favorite Instagram accounts and you’re work is gorgeous. I would be thrilled to make bread like this for my family.

  10. Artisan bread in minutes is so incredible it almost seems magical. It makes bread baking so easy to fit into one’s day . I’m anxious to get baking today

  11. I started years ago with your 2 books and took all my stuff to Mexico where we live for 6 months of the year, so I am sharing my creations with my neighbours and Mexicans working in our complex. I have tried many of your recipes,…enjoyed them all and especially love stuffing the bread with sun dried tomatoes and cheese then dipping in olive oil and balsamic cream…

  12. I have four of your books. Love making bread. This year instead of making rolls like I normally do each year for TG I used dough I had already made up. Saved me so much time.

  13. My girlfriend is gluten free and we love your gluten free recipes. She has been gf for 12 years and says that your bread (well, my bread. ahem) is better than anything you can buy in the store. Thank you so much for the books, the recipes, and the website. Your rye bread changed my life! And the gf teff fake rye is pretty awesome too. We love the gf pizza also! Happy Anniversary!!

  14. Hi! My name is Rosa. I just want to thank you so, so much for all the wonderful recipes you share with us! They are fabulous and delicious! I’ve been making your breads and mixes for more than five years now, and they have always turned out great! Happy 10th Anniversary!! You are fantastic!

  15. A co-worker got me hooked on Betsy’s Seeded Oat Bread. When I asked her for the recipe, she brought me her copies of Artisan Breads in Five… AND Healthy Breads in Five…to peruse. I went online and bought both right away for myself, even though she encouraged me to start with the first book, which I did.

I’ve been enjoying your recipes for years now, and I would love to replace my first edition of your first book with it’s update version!

  16. Zoe–your instagram stories are really helpful and wonderful. Thank you for these demos. Love the music selections too!!

  17. I love the book the New Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day. The only downside I have come across so far is the bread seems to go stale fairly quickly. Am I missing something, or do I just not eat it fast enough

    1. Carly: No–you’re just seeing the result of bread made without preservatives or dough conditioners. You can store in plastic for longer keeping–but the crust will soften.

  18. Hi Zoe and Jeff,

After 5 years, I am still baking using my home-grown sourdough starter and a tweaked version of your master recipe 🙂

I have gotten better at shaping the wet dough.
Thank you for sharing your recipes!

    Esther

  19. I have all your books and love them. This method helped me keep homemade bread on the tablevlast year while going through cancer treatments. I never would have had the energy to make and knead bread .

  20. Happy Birthday! How time goes by…I love your recipes and truly appreciate everything you have done for people with gluten intolerance.

    Andrea

  21. I have been trying home made breads for years but always failed. After watching the story feed this book might be the answer to help me solve the puzzle!!

  22. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this book/method and I’m looking forward to trying it out:)

  23. I love bread, but sure would love to expand my basic knowledge. It has been said that “bread is the staff of life”. ❤️

  24. Love your books. Made 4 loafs for Thanksgiving and it took me 5 minutes mixing, 18 hours dough in the fridge, 10 minutes of shaping and 2 hours of baking total. Fantastic results. Congratulations on those great books

  25. I can’t thank you enough for your amazing book. A couple years ago I picked it up and started baking for fun and to challenge myself. You’ve given me confidence in that even I can be a baker.

This last year I used these new skills to help raise money to go in a missions trip to Africa. With a few tweaks I made your recipes my own and am now selling bread to raise money to send a child or two to a private scool in Tanzania.

You made baking bread so simple that even it has changed me and is now affecting others!

  26. Your basic recipe has changed the average cook into something impressive. I’ve done your basic bread recipe many times and every time my kids, husband and company are so impressed. Thank you and congratulations on your 10th Anniversary.

  27. Your method for baking bread caught on like cascading dominoes. It started with my best friend bringing a small loaf of your bread to lunch, followed by me trying out the recipes on your web site. When my stepson Blake visited from California I showed him how to make bread in 5 minutes.Once he got the knack of good baking, he began bringing loaves of bread to his South Cali friends who also began baking. Who knows where I went from there?
Thank you so much for sharing your methods, ideas and recipes. My stepdaughter wants to try the gluten free recipes, so it looks like another neighborhood in Philadelphia will be adopting your amazing bread.

  28. Love this technique! We’ve been in the middle of a military move for the last two months, and we finally get into our new house today. I can’t wait to start making this bread again (and I know my family agrees ).

  29. Wow. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I have the original book and also the Healthy Bread book. I love this method of making bread!!! Thanks for inspiring all of us to get in the kitchen and bake.

  30. I need to win this because I lent out my copy of the first book and never got it back! If only I could remember who ended up with it…I think it might be one of my kids, actually…

  31. Just getting into making homemade bread for our farm family using a library copy of your book and I’d love to have my own copy. Thanks for all the hard work!

  32. I really want to start getting into bread baking. Every time I try it brings me so much joy to nurture what seems like a child from the very first dump of ingredients into the bowl to cutting into the warm loaf. Yet, I haven’t baked too many loaves because I am so intimidated! I really think this book would help me gain confidence and teach me how to master the art of bread baking!

  33. I am an old guy, Through the years I have experimented with various methods and recipe’s to bake loaves, rolls, pizza crusts, etc. I owned two different bread machines and when one unbalanced load vibrated the most recent machine to the edge of the counter for a final reverse gainer I started the search to buy another. I really mostly used the dough feature to avoid the knead/rest/knead thing. During that search if found “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes” and I am very happy as I now have fresh bread regularly and more counter space without a bread machine. I am still working to perfect the techniques and recipes to make a consistent product but REALLY enjoying the ride. I must admit it actually takes me around 6 minutes….did I mention that I am an old guy?
